Snapcaster
Based on-chain voting for Farcaster
The problem Snapcaster solves
In the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain, making group decisions can be tricky. Crypto enthusiasts often work together in communities that span the globe, but when it comes to making decisions as a group, things can get complicated. Traditional ways of voting don't always fit well with the digital and decentralized nature of these communities. They can be hard to use, not very transparent, and sometimes don't give everyone a fair chance to have their say.
This project aims to make group decision-making simpler and fairer for everyone involved in these digital communities. By creating a voting system that works directly within the tools and platforms that crypto fans already use, we're making it easier for everyone to take part. This isn't just about casting a vote; it's about making sure every vote counts equally, ensuring decisions are made transparently, and giving every community member a real chance to shape the direction of their group.
Challenges we ran into
In developing our voting system, we faced a challenge with token-based voting: our initial plan to use snapshots for determining voting weight required users to delegate their tokens, which proved complex. To keep things user-friendly and accessible, we shifted our approach. Now, we directly use an active user's current token balance to determine their vote's weight, bypassing the need for snapshots. This solution simplifies the process, ensuring our platform remains inclusive and straightforward for community decision-making.
