The problem SmartLemma solves

Make the lives of people with hearing disability simpler by giving them a way to be a part of day-to-day conversations.The biggest problem faced by deaf people and who's solution has not been devised yet is the inability to make video calls without the need of sign language or phone calls. Our application tries to solve this problem by converting the speech to text during a video or voice call in real time. It helps eliminate the need of learning and using sign language. Our solution also helps in allowing hearing impaired people to sit in regular classes without the need for special, sophistaced and expensive equipment.

Challenges we ran into

Due to huge dataset and limited processing power, we had to use the already exisiting API for text-to-speech and speech-to-text conversion. Also, integration of python script with Chrome extension using Native Messaging could not be completed to time limitation.
