Search results on google are littered with SEO keywords, which leads to SEO-based ranking, not necessarily on the basis of what is helpful to users.
The idea is to make the browsing experience more crowdsourced, with likes and comments by every user who visits links. Other users can then see these likes/comments and decide which links are actually helpful, avoiding the trap of SEO-rich links
