The problem Shredding Sassy x SHAKA Skatejam solves

Our project tackles the complexities of onboarding users to blockchain technology by creating an engaging, interactive experience tailored for diverse audiences, including skaters, their friends & families, and other spectators. Traditionally, barriers like wallet complexity, high gas fees, and intimidating interfaces have discouraged many from exploring the crypto space. By integrating onchain elements into a familiar, community-focused event, we bridge this gap effectively.

Through activities like a QR code scavenger hunt and $SHAKA rewards for tricks, we make blockchain accessible and fun, allowing participants to easily interact with Base and the Coinbase Smart Wallet. This not only simplifies wallet creation and transactions but also reduces friction typically associated with gas fees, thanks to Linkdrop's ability to allow gas sponsorship.

Beyond individual onboarding, our initiative fosters lasting community engagement. By collaborating with local businesses and NGOs, we support the local economy and promote brand recognition, encouraging ongoing participation through cross-promotion on social media. The inclusion of local skate shop gift cards further strengthens ties with the community, ensuring that our impact extends beyond the event itself.

Our long-term vision is ambitious: to bring one million people onchain with $SHAKA. This innovative approach, combining real-life events with onchain rewards, effectively taps into an untapped demographic that aligns with our cultural values. By making blockchain technology accessible and relatable, we aim to promote a broader understanding and adoption of crypto, proliferating both the $SHAKA mission and the Shredding Sassy brand.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered challenges primarily related to logistics and event planning. Securing approval from the local council was a significant hurdle, as was gathering all necessary equipment within a tight two-and-a-half-week timeframe. Despite these constraints, our marketing strategy was surprisingly effective, successfully engaging the local community just five days before the event. Overall, thanks to the seamless integration of Linkdrop and the Coinbase Smart Wallet, we faced no technical issues, ensuring a smooth experience for all participants.
