For any sort of a guardian, the Sex Education conversation is an extremely difficult one to be had because of which they often avoid it till it's too late or in countries like India, it is often never even brought up, right. We firmly believe good quality sex-ed is an absolute necessity because young adults go through puberty, sexual experiences and so much whilst knowing so little about their own bodies. What ends up happening is that there is so much hoo-hah and towers of myths spread around in the community that a lot of the information that young girls and boys believe in is not a reflection of the absolute truth and that can be very dangerous because it is health you’ll be risking. Due to the immense amount of stigma built up around sex and related activities, they’re not going to ask their parents or any reliable sources, rather revel in their misconceptions. There isn't any way to know about things like sexuality, gender orientation, body positivity in a manner that the recipient of the knowledge feels safe. Futhermore, with the stigma and disbelief around periods, especially in more marginalised parts of our country, SexEdify can do wonders! These places might not let their women talk about periods but there sure is the Internet. Now, the internet can be a very powerful and tricky tool here. With SexEdify, we plan to harvest that power of networking to create the ONE ABSOLUTE forum for all things Sex-Ed!
We're a team of four girls very enthusiastic about compassionate technologies with empathetic visions. We started off delegating work of all the different features we wanted to incorporate and got coding. Soon we realised, integration of the different components will be a tricky feat. It took a while but we managed to get over that bump. Another hardship we faced was the cards we've used to denote the different modules under the curriculum tab. These cards are reusable components with props and we weren't really sure how to get them to route to unique pages with the content which again, would be dynamic. It took a while, a whole lot of coffee and selling our souls to Google, but we finally got it to work. UI/UX was a fun part too. We wanted the UI to look like something that would be school friendly but also gentle and modern enough to be able to serve its purpose as the StackOverflow for sex-ed. We haven't really dabbled with backend a whole lot before this hackathon so we learnt GraphQL within a day and managed to make a discussion portal that we hope you like.
