Why are you participating for Based SEA?

We are a part of Chulablockchain Society, a club focused on blockchain and Web 3.0 in Thailand. We aim to act as a communication bridge between the general public and the blockchain industry. The club currently has 55 members. Our activities include educating club members, working on projects, and organizing various events. We foster knowledge exchange, helping members advance into the Web 3.0 space. We also organize events for the public. One of our notable achievements was hosting the 'CUBS 2024 Blockathon: The Next Gen Business Innovation, which attracted over 1,800 student participants from across Thailand. This event helped participants learn about blockchain through hands-on experience on a large scale.

Recently, we have been particularly interested in the Coinbase Wallet and Coinbase Smart Wallet, which make it easier for everyday users to access and engage with the onchain economy through real-world use cases (IRL). As part of our initiative, I encouraged our club members to open their wallets, and we found that many who had no prior experience with onchain could easily use Coinbase Wallet. This accessibility makes it an ideal gateway for students and newcomers to explore the potential of blockchain.

Our activities have effectively educated and communicated blockchain knowledge to the public in Thailand. Additionally, we have built our community of over 1,000 students on Discord and Telegram. Inspired by this success, we have been studying Base ecosystem and want to develop a Based student community. Base is an accessible ecosystem with user-friendly applications and low fees, making it ideal for students or those looking to build their projects or expand their knowledge. This is why we are creating Based Student Community, which will serve as a medium to communicate and drive more people into Based community.

We are seeking strong support from Base so I invited some of the club members to build up Based Chula Students.

What challenges are you focusing on?

Thailand has over 6 million KYC users on CEX platforms, and Chulalongkorn University alone boasts over 2 million alumni. However, only around 300,000 people in Thailand (about 5% of crypto investors) have used onchain wallets.

We aim to onboard students from universities and schools across Thailand by providing basic blockchain education. We are focused on educating new users, particularly those with high-income potential, to help them understand the value of onchain economy.

Additionally, many people don’t yet understand how to generate income through onchain economy or the types of jobs available in onchain ecosystem. We aim to address this by offering education, onboarding, and training in the onchain economy.

As students at Chulalongkorn University, we are well-positioned to serve as ambassadors (or clubs in Top 10 Thailand Universities), We build this initiative by creating clubs and working with the university to raise awareness and engagement.

How does your submission address this challenge?

Our project empowered students with essential blockchain knowledge, onboarding them into Base ecosystem. It creates a supportive space that increases awareness and engagement, with potential to grow across other universities. Additionally, Based Student provides blockchain fundamentals for beginners, expanding its impact beyond the university by empowering individuals to make meaningful contributions to the blockchain industry. This way, our project not only fosters student communities but also helps develop future leaders in the blockchain space.

Challenges we ran into

We faced a major hurdle in building a community within a very limited time frame. This challenge involved not only creating engaging content but also designing appealing artwork and connecting people to the community in a meaningful way. Encouraging participation was tough in such a short period. However, we overcame this by leveraging advice from mentors and valuable resources. Together, we designed content strategically and hosted activities that attracted people, helping us foster engagement and build our community successfully despite the time constraints.
