Satark

An App that provides a common platform for people and local authorities to issue and resolve road and fire accidents.

The problem Satark solves

In India, a lack of situational awareness in case a blaze erupts is a cause of major concern. Most of us do not know what to do, in even a small fire, let alone fight it. In case one is stuck in ablaze. Chances are, people may not even be aware of the emergency numbers to dial in such situations, and even so, the process of issuing an SOS call is a tedious process in time of grave emergency. Late relief responses causes many deaths in vain.

Our idea is to provide a mobile platform for swift communication between the local authority and the public for conveying accidents. The whole process of alerting will take less than a minute. People would be able to alert the fire station/police/hospital immediately. The data would include details such as the number of victims, the severity of the incident, the exact location using GPS and the details about the locality. The authorities would thus be able to tackle the situation more effectively. The general public will also be well aware of the accidents occurring in their locality.

This solution can be applied to a variety of problems such as road accidents, which are responsible for half the deaths in the country and even other unprecedented incidents. The gathered data over time can be used for the analysis of accidents based on various criteria and be used to predict and prevent future accidents.

Challenges we ran into

Trouble with interfacing the Google maps API
Getting the app to work the way we wanted, with all the essential functionalities working behind the scenes but at the same time keeping the process minimalistic and precise, so that the user can send an alert in a jiffy without having to go through long and tedious processes.

Scalability and real-life implementation issues:
The main challenge would be to globalize the app across the country, suitable promotion is required to establish wide spread usage of the app
Preventing someone from spamming false alarms; although not completely feasible, false alarms can be hindered to a certain extent by penalizing users for the misuse of app, who can be identified by their registered credentials: sim no., aadhaar card etc.
