SARATHI

SARATHI

An alternative to the current ride-hailing apps, our application primarily focuses on the reduced and subsidised auto-rickshaw fare charges which complies with governement regulations of Karnataka.

The problem SARATHI solves

In Karnataka the ride-hailing apps do not following the auto-fare charges as per the standard government regulations of the state. Unlike the existing ride-hailing apps where the pricing is not transparent, we propose an system which purely follows the pricing set by the governing authorities, where the pricing is fair and transparent. This is done by using the Auto-fare meters. A scanner is integrated into the application which scans the auto-fare displayed on the meter after the trip is completed, using ''Optical Character Recognition" and OpenCV techniques, the pricing is extracted from the display meter and the same is diplayed on the payment page which redirects to leading UPI request handlers(ex. gpay or paytm). This ensures the fair and correct meter pricing is followed for a trip.
We also provide the driver with the accurate pickup and destination of the rider.

Challenges we ran into

  1. auth0 was a new technology which we have integrated into our authentication system, using it was challenging but we managed to do so.
  2. OCR has a lot of environmental challenges as the algorithm as to perform optimally even in unstable conditions, perfecting it is still in process.
  3. We tried deploying on Replit, but due to technical limitations, we were unable to do so.
