Guarding Privacy, Finding the Lost, and Eradicating Scams: Together for a Safer Tomorrow.
The problem SafeHaven solves
Breach of Privacy: In the digital age, concerns about privacy and the unauthorized use of personal images online are growing. SafeHaven aims to develop a system using advanced deep learning techniques to protect individuals' privacy by preventing the misuse of their facial images across the internet.
Missing Persons: Time is crucial when someone goes missing. SafeHaven leverages AI-driven facial recognition technology to aid in locating missing persons more quickly and effectively. By accessing existing surveillance cameras at traffic signals, banks, and other locations, and incentivizing public participation through a token reward system, SafeHaven aims to expand the search and improve the likelihood of a successful reunion.
Scams: The prevalence of online scams has risen, causing financial and emotional harm to many individuals. SafeHaven provides a platform where users can report scams, seek justice, and raise awareness about fraudulent activities, empowering the community to remain vigilant and informed.
With SafeHaven, we strive to create a safer and more secure online environment for everyone.
Challenges we ran into
During the development of SafeHaven, our team faced several challenges, primarily due to our limited experience in web development as first-year students. Our prior knowledge was confined to static frontend web development, and we had little to no understanding of backend development.
Responsive Design: One of the initial challenges we encountered was making our website responsive. Ensuring that our website looked and functioned well across different devices and screen sizes was a daunting task for us as beginners.
Backend Development: Our lack of knowledge in backend development was another significant hurdle. Implementing dynamic functionalities and handling data storage were areas where we felt out of our depth.
How We Overcame It:
Teamwork: Despite our limited experience, our team worked cohesively and collaboratively. We divided tasks based on our strengths and weaknesses, ensuring that everyone had a role to play and could contribute effectively to the project.
Mentor Guidance: The guidance and support from our mentors were invaluable. They provided us with insights, advice, and solutions to the challenges we faced, helping us navigate through the complexities of web development.
Self-Study: Recognizing the gaps in our knowledge, we took the initiative to self-study and learn new concepts and technologies. We spent hours researching and watching tutorials online to grasp the basics of backend development, Node.js, and MongoDB.
Feedback Form Implementation: One of our accomplishments during the hackathon was successfully implementing a feedback form. With the help of online resources, we learned how to use Node.js and MongoDB to store the data from the feedback form, marking our first venture into backend development.
Looking back, we are proud and astonished at how much we were able to learn and accomplish in just 24 hours.
