In recent times, the pandemic situation has brought major changes in the way educational
institutions function. The need has come to conduct assessments online - and this need is here to
stay. Many institutions that have tried to adapt existing online communication systems for
conducting examinations, such attempts have eventually been a failure. The workarounds
burden both the students taking these examinations and the faculty members that design the
tests. Therefore we propose a system to automate the entire process using which assessment can
be conducted online in an improved manner.
There are many platforms (both paid and open source) that provide online assessment as service
to various institutions. The functionality provided by these specialized online platforms is fixed
and cannot be altered to the needs of the institution. Most of these platforms provide automatic
scoring for MCQ and scoring based on the exact match of the student answer with answers
present in an accepted answer set or if it is a numerical answer, a range check can be performed.
However, the long subjective answers have to be manually evaluated by the faculty.
We integrated a NLP based solution to target that problem. We also offer plagiarism check to ensure students don't just copy paste answers off the web.
In a video game like environment, students are encouraged with tokens for their performance which they can collect and ultimately use to redeem a personalized gift from the institution. The tokens are handed out for evey accomplishment, submission, performance improvement and sustained performance providing additional motivation to score will in tests and submit assignments on time.
