The Problem It Solves

200 Million users already hold crypto, but very few (<2%) spend it in real life. Even when merchants accept crypto, users often default to credit cards, since rewards are higher and discovery of crypto-accepting merchants is fragmented.

Merchants, on the other hand, want more customers but lack an easy way to attract crypto users with incentives like cashback.

Our Solution (ROZO Base Mini App)
• The Base mini app acts as a live map of merchants accepting USDC, starting with Base ecosystem. This lets users instantly find where to spend, and merchants gain organic traffic.
• By abstracting payment flows and offering on-chain rewards, ROZO makes crypto as easy and rewarding as Visa, but open and permissionless.
• ROZO makes crypto usable in daily life. We launched our MVP in Balaji’s Network School, onboarding grocery stores, coffee shops, and restaurants, some offering up to 15% cashback.

Challenges I ran into

One major challenge was around Spend Permissions for the Base mini app. Initially, we designed the flow with EOA wallets, but later discovered that spend permissions only work with smart wallets.

This mismatch created friction in enabling one-tap payments. To overcome this, we re-architected the payment layer around smart account support, ensuring spend permissions with better intent-based payments.
