Rozgar

Driven by the principle of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Rozgar is an app that connects nearly 26 lakh displaced migrant labourers in India, whose 2G phones don't have Linkedin or WhatsApp, to Employers.

The problem Rozgar solves

The Covid-19 Pandemic has left everyone disturbed in some or the other way. In a country like ours, where interstate migration caps at a huge figure of nearly 60 million, the people who have suffered the most in terms of employment, wage and wealth are the migrant laborers. Stats show that since Mid-March, nearly 15-20% or 3 crore people have participated in Reverse Migration. The problem arises when these migrant laborer’s try to come back, changed times mean changed methodologies and this could mean the integration back into work could be a troublesome process for most of the Migrant Labourers.

Challenges we ran into

• While building this app, the biggest challenge we faced was to establish communication with poor workers who don't have internet access or expensive smartphones.
• We brainstormed it and came up with this messaging solution. Using text messages, we can easily and cheaply obtain data from millions of workers across India and add them to our database.
• We used Integromat to read messages and then sent the information to a NodeJS API endpoint which parses all the relevant information and enters it into our database.
• Another challenge we faced was to integrate the ML Kit into the app. Both of us in the team had no previous experience in using Firebase ML Kit.
• But we read the documentation and learned it on the spot and were successfully able to implement it in our app within the time limit.
