The problem Rocketlink solves
Rocketlink is a simple crypto dashboard that helps users monitor live token prices with data backed by smart contracts. Unlike most dashboards that rely entirely on centralized APIs, Rocketlink integrates Chainlink Price Feeds and smart contracts on Avalanche Fuji to provide decentralized, verifiable on-chain price data.
Users can:
- View real-time token prices sourced from Chainlink feeds
- Explore historical price charts (via CoinGecko for now)
- Set custom on-chain price thresholds per token
- Manually trigger on-chain price updates
- Check whether a threshold has been breached on-chain
This makes it useful for anyone exploring how price data and smart contracts can be combined for on-chain monitoring, alerting systems, or frontend-integrated DeFi tools.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was project setup and deploying my smart contract locally. I got most of it working by forking Fuji to access Chainlink Price Feeds, but eventually switched to deploying directly to Avalanche Fuji to simplify testing and integration during development.
Another major challenge was implementing frontend polling to display updated token prices from my smart contract, using Chainlink Price Feeds as a fallback. Refactoring the app to fetch fresh price data on an interval, without triggering unnecessary re-renders or excessive requests, led to several tricky rendering bugs, hydration mismatches, and race conditions. Getting the UI to feel responsive while keeping data fresh was one of the harder frontend problems to solve.
Rate limits also proved difficult. The CoinGecko API used for historical chart data has a very low cap, and even public Avalanche RPC endpoints would occasionally fail or return incomplete data under modest load. I tried a dedicated RPC provider, but it ended up being less reliable than the original public one. To help mitigate this, I added tab visibility checks and conditional polling to reduce unnecessary requests and improve responsiveness.
Finally, integrating Chainlink Automation added complexity. Each token required its own deployed smart contract instance, which made automation setup and management more time-consuming. To keep things maintainable and focused, I limited full automation support to just three tokens (AVAX, LINK, and ETH) in the demo.
