Many-a-times we see road accidents occurring from different reasons like potholes, high rains, slippery roads, fog, etc. And the number of car accident are increasing by 16% each year which is a big topic of concern. To avoid these road accidents there is a solution which can be fulfilled using IoT technology. In this solution we had made a system which will detect potholes, road slipperiness, rain and fog 1KM before the current location and alert the driver for any danger condition. In this for data collection we had used a cloud platform and mobile notification service for sending the alerts to the driver. In this report we will explain everything in detail from problem identification to the testing of the prototype.
A significant amount of research work carried out on traffic management systems, but intelligent traffic monitoring is still an active research topic due to the emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT). The integration of these techniques in traffic management will facilitates in increase of road safety. Road safety comes under traffic management and is a big issue which can be solved using IoT integrating with the present system.
Many accidents occur on road due to many reasons like fog, wet roads and rain, pat holes, distracted driving, etc. And the number of car accident are increasing by 16% each year which is a big topic of concern. Many people lost their lives in car accidents due to dense fog in which the visibility is less and there comes variation in speed. In rains the roads become very slippery due to which brakes doesn’t work properly and caused car crashes. There are many such reasons but this is the time to fix them.
In this IoT design Project we had learned many things and we were very new to the different sensors, actuators and micro-controllers and also to their interfacing. Initially, it was a bit difficult for us to interface the sensors and making them work. But, later on we got familiar with it and it became fun for us. In my case, I had used GPS for detecting user’s location so it took me around 3-4 days with just a single module of GPS to make it work. But after sometime it worked and I got the location. In implementation phase we started our prototype and interfaced all the sensors together. And in the testing phase we had made a test table with many test cases, some tests were passed but some failed. With the technical skills we also learned soft skills and the main is patience. Patience is the very important thing needed in sensors and actuators.
