Borderless remittances with stablecoins

The problem RemesaCripto solves

RemesaCripto solves the problem of slow, expensive, and inaccessible remittance systems for families in Latin America.
Millions of people send money to their families back home, but traditional services like Western Union charge high fees, require physical pickup, or depend on local bank access — which many recipients don't have.

RemesaCripto provides a fast, low-cost, and borderless alternative by using stablecoins on Base.
Users can send money in seconds using crypto, and recipients can receive funds on their phones without needing a bank account. It's optimized for real-life needs: ease of use, financial inclusion, and 24/7 access.

Challenges I ran into

One of the main challenges was designing a user experience that feels familiar to non-crypto users while ensuring all transactions happen onchain.
Most remittance recipients are not familiar with blockchain or wallets, so we had to simplify the process. We solved this by integrating Smart Wallets and Basenames, which allow for seamless onboarding and human-readable usernames instead of long wallet addresses.

Another challenge was ensuring compliance with regional constraints and managing conversion to local currencies.
We approached this by using off-chain simulation for fiat conversion in the prototype and outlining a model for future integration with local partners or stablecoin off-ramps.
