The problem Reimagining Knowledge: A Decentralized Platform solves
Creating a decentralized Wikipedia application using blockchain technology addresses several key issues inherent in traditional centralized platforms. Centralized systems are prone to censorship, data manipulation, and security vulnerabilities, all of which undermine the integrity and trustworthiness of the information they host. By leveraging blockchain, a decentralized Wikipedia ensures that no single entity has control over the content, promoting free speech and preventing censorship. Blockchain's immutable records guarantee data integrity, making it impossible to alter information without leaving a trace, thereby enhancing trust. Additionally, decentralized storage solutions like IPFS make the platform more secure and resilient to attacks, reducing the risk of data breaches and ensuring data availability even if some nodes go offline. Implementing a reward system using cryptocurrency can incentivize contributions, ensuring that authors are fairly recognized and compensated for their efforts. Transparent governance models, such as DAOs, enable collective decision-making, ensuring that the platform evolves in a way that benefits the entire community. This democratizes information and knowledge sharing, providing equal access for all users. Ultimately, a decentralized Wikipedia creates a more secure, transparent, and democratic platform for sharing knowledge, free from the limitations and issues associated with centralized systems.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was in decentralising part which included the smart constract part and we also faced challenge in the backend part. We tried to add the article part and many other features but faced issues in that too. Overall the project was on a tougher side as it was our first hackathon and hopefully we'll learn the concepts in the next hackathon and will try to improve and contribute something.
