RDP: Web2 & Web3 Integration for dApps made easy
Connect thousands of real-world services in minutes with Refract Developer Platform (RDP), bridging Web2 apps with the Base ecosystem and driving mass adoption for millions of future Web3 users.
The problem RDP: Web2 & Web3 Integration for dApps made easy solves
We see that current dApps are eager to build across Web2 and Web3 to create real consumer application value, but they face two pain points. First, they must individually write data connectors for each Web2 app they want their Web3 dApp to communicate with, hindering scalability and integration. Second, after creating the oracle software to connect Web2 and Web3, they must handle the complexities of node hosting and server maintenance. Therefore, we built RDP to address these pain points. RDP is an SDK that empowers Web3 developers to swiftly integrate multiple Web2 service platforms with just one click. It offers out-of-the-box Web2 app connector solutions, allowing developers to quickly build bespoke oracles without writing custom data connectors, using battle-tested connectors within RDP. Additionally, RDP bundles the oracle software into a Docker image, allowing for scalable, one-click deployment on servers, saving developers time and effort.
The number of consumer dApps in the Base ecosystem is growing as Base reduces transaction costs and enhances scalability. This allows RDP to serve millions of users and drive mass adoption, creating significant value in the consumer market. Also, we understand that the number of battle-tested connectors that the community can make is still limited. Therefore, with Fleek’s highly flexible decentralized edge computing model, developers are allowed to deploy any executable action scripts on their IPFS network. RDP's RFT tokenization technology can be linked to Fleek Functions for execution triggers. This expands the scalability of off-chain services supported by RDP, enabling on-chain events to execute any off-chain computations linked by Fleek Functions and enables developers to connect any real-world executable services to on-chain tokens via Refractor, enhancing the scalability and reach of the platform. Together, Base and Fleek empower the RDP to streamline Web2 and Web3 integration, driving innovation and scalability.
Challenges we ran into
As students fascinated by blockchain, we discovered Web3 developers' frustration with the costly, time-consuming process of creating custom connectors for Web2 services during this hackathon. They needed a better integration toolkit. Motivated by this feedback, we created the Refract Developer Platform (RDP), an easy-to-use SDK that streamlines these integrations, allowing developers to quickly connect their dApps with multiple Web2 service platforms.
However, incorporating developers' feedback into our platform proved to be a significant challenge, requiring continuous refinement and adaptation. Despite our hard work and dedication, we faced a major hurdle: funding. We lacked the necessary resources to launch RDP on the mainnet and reach a broader audience to gather crucial feedback.
Our journey has been a testament to perseverance and innovation, driven by our unwavering belief in RDP's potential to revolutionize the Web3 space and bring real-world utilities to on-chain applications. As we continue to evolve RDP, we remain focused on listening to our users and iterating based on their needs. We believe that with Base and Fleek, we can further accelerate our development, introduce more innovative features, and support a larger community of Web3 dApp developers.
