The problem RecyChain solves
Recycling is often inconvenient, unrewarding, and lacks transparency — many people don’t know where their recyclables go or whether they actually make an impact.
Our platform makes recycling easier, rewarding, and verifiable by:
· Providing accessible drop-off options at verified centers or smart bins.
· Rewarding users instantly with RecyCoin (RC) for each verified item.
· Tracking recycling data on a ledger (future Web3 version) for full transparency.
This creates a trustworthy and gamified recycling experience, motivating more people to participate and helping communities reduce waste effectively.
Challenges we ran into
Our team had very limited Web3 and blockchain experience.
While we initially planned to build a full blockchain backend with Solidity, Hardhat, and Alchemy, we struggled with the steep learning curve and setup issues.
Due to time constraints, we decided to complete the prototype with a Web2 backend (Firebase + Flask) while keeping the Web3 architecture in mind for future development.
This allowed us to deliver a functional demo while still exploring blockchain integration concepts.
