Recess.fun
Bringing your recess back, one game at a time.
The problem Recess.fun solves
The simple, social games we grew up with are fading away.
These games taught us to bond, learn, and grow, but almost no one plays them anymore.
Young adults are seeking nostalgia and shared childhood memories.
Friends want quick, casual games to play together without long commitments.
Global audiences are curious about discovering recess games from other cultures.
👉 Recess brings back childhood recess games, online.
Play with friends, anytime, anywhere.
A single platform to find nostalgic childhood games from around the world.
Because nostalgia is universal.
Challenges we ran into
Re-creating offline, face-to-face social games in an online setting was tricky.
One major challenge was handling real-time gameplay (synchronization between multiple players).
I initially struggled with socket-based connections dropping or desyncing, which made the games unplayable.
Solved this by switching to Pusher for reliable real-time communication, ensuring that every move/action is instantly synced across all players.
Another hurdle was keeping the games simple yet engaging, while preserving their nostalgic charm.
Overcoming these challenges allowed Recess to feel just like the games we loved—only now, playable anywhere in the world.
