THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES

How Ranger Green Helps Users

1. Automated Watering System

  • The soil moisture sensor monitors soil conditions and automatically controls the water pump.
  • Ensures crops receive adequate water without human intervention.
  • Reduces water wastage and optimizes irrigation efficiency.

2. Remote Monitoring and Control

  • The ESP8266 module allows users to monitor data remotely via the internet.
  • Farmers can check moisture levels, temperature, humidity, and solar intensity from anywhere.
  • The system can be integrated with a mobile app or web dashboard for better accessibility.

3. Energy Efficiency with Solar Light Intensity Measurement

  • The BH1750 light sensor helps in measuring solar intensity.
  • This data can be used to optimize solar panel positioning or adjust watering schedules based on sunlight exposure.

4. Labor and Cost Reduction

  • Reduces manual labor required for watering crops.
  • Saves on electricity and water bills through optimized resource usage.
  • Ideal for large farms, greenhouses, and home gardens.

5. Safety and Reliability

  • The relay module ensures safe operation of the water pump.
  • The transistor and diode provide circuit protection against voltage spikes and overheating.
  • Prevents electrical failures and damage to expensive equipment.

Use Cases

  • Home Gardening – Automated plant watering for potted plants and small gardens.
  • Commercial Farming – Large-scale irrigation automation for better crop yield.
  • Greenhouses – Temperature, humidity, and light intensity monitoring for controlled environments.
  • Smart Irrigation Systems – Municipal and community farming projects to optimize water usage.
  • Research and Development – Ideal for agricultural studies, precision farming projects, and IoT-based applications.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges Faced and Solutions in Ranger Green

Challenges Encountered and Solutions Implemented

1. Overheating of Components in Continuous Operation

  • Issue: Components like the transistor and relay module overheated after prolonged operation, posing a risk of failure.
  • Solution: We improved heat dissipation by using heat sinks and opting for higher-rated components that could handle greater loads more efficiently.

2. Voltage Issue with NodeMCU ESP Module

  • Issue: The ESP module experienced voltage fluctuations, leading to sensor failures and system instability.
  • Solution: We introduced a transistor (BC547), a resistor, and a diode (IN40007) to regulate the voltage and ensure smooth sensor operation without interference.

3. Overall Power Supply Issues

  • Issue: The entire system faced intermittent power failures, affecting the overall performance.
  • Solution: We integrated a breadboard power supply module, which ensured stable voltage distribution to all components, enhancing overall system reliability.

4. Calibration of Sensors for Accuracy

  • Issue: Initial readings from sensors such as temperature, humidity, and soil moisture were inconsistent, requiring recalibration.
  • Solution: We cross-checked sensor outputs with reference values, adjusted parameters in the software, and refined calibration methods for enhanced accuracy.

5. Data Storage and Real-Time Uploading to Azure

  • Issue: We faced difficulties in storing and uploading real-time data to Azure, leading to inconsistencies in data management.
  • Solution: To address this, we developed a local server database to temporarily store and process the data before syncing it with Azure, ensuring seamless data management and reliability.
