There has been a massive adoption of Web3 with numerous Decentralised Applications(DAPPs) deployed every day. However, unlike the rest of Web3, socialisation hasn’t been adopted on Web3, making it still centralised, relying on apps such as Discord and Twitter to communicate with each other.
Due to the lack of socialisation over Web3, blockchain-related has become highly untrustworthy, as some transactions aren’t encrypted and could easily be tracked and hacked. Moreover, NFT trading is still archaic, with potential buyers unable to freely reach out to fellow traders, socialising, and transact, which has made NFT and other related crypto transactions reasonably centralised. Deviating from the main idea behind the blockchain space is to provide a decentralised and accessible medium of exchange. However, Marketplaces such as Opensea, which don’t allow users to socialise freely on their platform, have become the defacto ‘Amazon’, and Uniswap the defacto ‘NYC Exchange’ of the crypto space.
Our biggest pressing problem, which Quilt is solving, is our data privacy. These pieces of private information, which we used to sign up to platforms that promised our best interest, have been used against us. Big companies such as Facebook have misused our data to our detriment
Currently, we are worried about the storage capacity. Browser peers use localStorage or IndexedDB to store only a subset of the graph they are subscribed to, synced using WebRTC, Websockets, or other transports. The same browser code also runs in NodeJS with adapter plugins for fs, S3-like storage backups, UDP multicast, and other features that let it stay in "relay" mode only or to store everything. But we don’t want to use centralized storage like S3. So we are in search of decentralized options to deploy our relay peers. Therefore we would like to change our infrastructure from gun (https://gun.eco/) to OrbitDB (https://orbitdb.org/).
The current important need is to find a solution that will make our protocol more scalable. Also, we need to onboard beta testers who will give us honest feedbacks which will make our product more perfect.
