"The Real Random Number"

The problem Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) solves

Quantum Random Number Generator is a cross-chain lottery application that generates truly unpredictable three-digit random numbers (e.g., 542) using quantum computing via IBM Quantum Systems (backend: ibm_sherbrooke). We integrate Chainlink Functions to manage API calls and ensure verifiable randomness on Avalanche, aiming for efficiency with one API call per request. The project demonstrates how quantum computing can enhance decentralized applications by providing true randomness for use cases like lotteries, ensuring transparency and trust.

Our solution addresses the challenge of generating truly unpredictable randomness for decentralized applications, such as cross-chain lotteries. Traditional pseudo-random number generators (PRNGs) are predictable and can be manipulated, undermining trust in systems like lotteries or gaming. By using quantum computing (IBM Quantum), we generate randomness based on fundamental physical principles, and with Chainlink Functions, we integrate it efficiently and verifiably into Avalanche, ensuring transparency and fairness.

The unique combination of quantum computing (IBM Quantum with ibm_sherbrooke backend) with Chainlink Functions and Avalanche sets our project apart. We provide true randomness, optimize costs (limiting to three-digit numbers), and enable cross-chain functionality, opening new possibilities for secure and reliable decentralized applications.

This project can expand to other use cases requiring verifiable randomness, such as decentralized voting, NFT gaming, or DAO governance systems. We plan to implement on-chain storage for generated numbers, enhance the UI for mobile devices, and further optimize API calls for production environments.

Challenges I ran into

Development challenges included IBM Quantum job delays, Chainlink Functions making four API calls instead of one, WebSocket errors, deployment instability, and resource constraints on the development machine. We mitigated these by limiting numbers to three digits, adjusting WebSocket keepalive intervals, and using Serveo/ngrok. This project highlights the potential of combining quantum computing with blockchain, with future applications in gaming, voting, and more.
