PureMeds

Our objective with this project is to detect counterfeit drugs with the help of Blockchain Technology.

The problem PureMeds solves

There are many counterfeit medicines in the existing supply chain. Counterfeit medicines
are medicines that are mislabelled deliberately and fraudulently regarding their identity and/or
source. They can be made with the wrong dose or no dose of medicine, or with toxic or harmful
ingredients. Counterfeit medicines are unsafe. They are usually packaged to look like the real
thing. Fake drugs simply don’t provide the needed therapeutic value as they may lack active
ingredients. In the worst case, some contain dangerous products. It is necessary to have a sys-
tem for end user to check all details about a medicine as well as to check the genuinity of the
medicine.
Blockchain technology can be used in identification of real medicine and detection of fake ones.
Blockchain technology is the distributed, decentralized, and digital ledger that stores transac-
tional information in the form of blocks in a number of nodes generally distributed across the
globe and connected with the mesh. Blockchain technology is secure technology therefore any
block cannot be changed or hacked. By using Blockchain technology, customers or users do
not need to rely on third-party Organisation for validation of product genuinity.
This project introduces a decentralized Blockchain based application system (DApp) with a
view to identifying counterfeit medicine in the supply chain system. With the rapid rise of
Blockchain technology, it has become known that data recorded within Blockchain is im-
mutable and secure. Hence, the proposed project here uses this concept to handle the transfer
of ownership of medicine. The consumer can verify the drug distribution and ownership infor-
mation scanning a Quick Response (QR) code generated by the DApp for each drug linked to
the Blockchain.

Challenges we ran into

As this was our first project we build on blockchain technology, one of the most challenging parts was to absorb enormous infomation about the technology, including how to work with programming languages like Solidity and tools like Ethereum, MetaMask, and Web3.js. Unfortunately, we encountered several issues during the development process that made things even more difficult.
One of the main problems we faced was having to switch from Ether js to Web3.js. We had already spent a lot of time developing our project using Ether.js, but then realized that it wasn't going to work for our needs. Switching to Web3.js required us to rewrite significant portions of our code and spend additional time debugging. It was a frustrating setback that slowed us down and required us to pivot our development approach
We also ran into issues with MetaMask not working properly. MetaMask is a popular browser extension used to interact with Ethereum-based dApps, and we were relying on it heavily for our project. However, we found that it was not always connecting properly or was not compatible with certain aspects of our project. This caused delays and added complexity to our development process, as we had to spend time troubleshooting and finding workarounds.

Cheer Project

Cheering for a project means supporting a project you like with as little as 0.0025 ETH. Right now, you can Cheer using ETH on Arbitrum, Optimism and Base.
