Proximity | Open Source Meets Open Economies

The problem Proximity | Open Source Meets Open Economies solves

Current Education & Hiring System Sucks!

We live in a world where landing a good job largely depends on luck as the selection procedure isn't transparent and lacks behind in matching worthy talent. The current system also doesn't take into account the interest & capability of each candidate. You could freelance, but that can be challenging without a network of customers and you’re mostly on your own.

This is the reason that many times the new job inductees are not a good fit for the role or don't get along well with the nature of work and hence, not able to keep up with their position. Meanwhile, those with the interest & calibre miss out on many such great opportunities.

Is there a way to have both a good community/team, a high degree of freedom with incentives?

The Ideal World

  • What if, as a student, I could get exposed to the real-world work of companies/startups and get incentives to contribute to the same.

  • What if I could join a community to find projects, engage with project supervisors & other talented people to find the work/team that intrigues me and get rewarded for my contribution.

  • What if, as a business, I could get my work done with the help of outside talent and hire interested candidates with a transparent record of contribution to projects.

There's a dire need for an eco-system that incentivises participation in open-source work/hiring with transparent governance and an inclusive community that benefits both the people & businesses to find their interests, increase productivity with rewards and deliver great results. DAOs seem to offer just that. A DAO is an organisation, a community and that means you can collectively look for and work on projects or build your own products. Initial tokens for joining the eco-system will be provided to both companies & people to propose a project or apply to projects. Successful contributors are rewarded with tokens and many other benefits after a collective review of DAO decision-makers.

Challenges I ran into

The scale of the success of GitCoin validates the massive potential of ProximityDAO and in future, we aim to build an infrastructure that can collaborate to provide: game-based learning for various skill-tracks, bounties for creators (Game-makers, Bloggers, Youtubers) to contribute to the knowledge base of our platform and other such initiatives which will increase the value throughput of our community. But, of course, there are various challenges to overcome for successful implementation of this concept:

  • I am currently building a team of developers and will take leverage of my network to build Proximity Website/App. As an Aragon Ambassador, I used Aragon infrastructure for a simple yet effective demonstration as the idea was conceived just 4 days before the deadline. (I researched a lot and worked on a few ideas before striking this)

  • Initial tokens are required to set up the whole DAO economy and hence, some funding will be required to kickstart the main project.

  • Marketing: After some traction with funding, we'll start by onboarding businesses on our platform and then the users will be acquired through marketing to target communities in the education/job space. Successful project completion & rewards will build credibility to attract more users and businesses. The provision of support & resources along with the win will help us achieve it.

  • Mentorship sessions, learning material and the community created by Polygon were really beneficial in brushing up the web3 knowledge that helped me formulate the Proximity concept. This is the atmosphere I strive to create with my idea in the open-source sphere.

Important - Testing Guide :

** The link provided is of Aragon where I made the DAO demo and it is deployed on the Rinkeby network. Hence, Please connect your Aragon screen with the Rinkeby network to access the demo. **

(Please consider me for top-40 polygon hack as well since the main project will be deployed on Matic Mainnet)
