The problem Propagation of Digital News Media in India solves

Our project encourages Digital Journalism which is a contemporary form of journalism where editorial content is distributed via the Internet, as opposed to publishing via print or broadcast in India. The news that we follow today on the mainstream media which include the news channels and newspapers do not show constructive news. Most of the Indian news channels are biased, they sell their own opinions and try to manipulate the viewers. They manipulate the audience with unnecessary question marks and do not show both sides of an incident. Journalists and news media organizations under political pressure, also some of the media organizations are owned by political parties/leaders. By holding unnecessary debates for gaining attention and TRP, they have lost the ethics of news.
Our project proposes a prototype of an app which encourages digital news media in India which promotes citizen journalism and also helps independent and non-profit news organizations and freelance journalists who report real news to gain attention and reduce the propagation of misinformation and fake news. Our app also encourages the idea of using memes as memes has been a trending way to provide news via social media, which is an interesting way to grasp news rather than the normal article reading style. Our app can collaborate with the independent and non-profit news organizations who provide the reliable news reports or articles, then the technical team using some selection algorithms selects which articles are to be displayed on the app for casual news reading. For the news in the form of news, we can collaborate with NYUS app team who might help us further. Also, our app has a feature of fact checking which is much different from those of the fact checking websites available in terms of backend design.Based on the mood of the user, he/she can select in what way they want to grasp the news also if they come across some fact, not sure whether its real or fake then they could get it clarified.

Challenges we ran into

• It is important for the citizens to know about the latest news happening around them and these days it has become very difficult for us to give time to the news channels., and even if we give, we end up wasting time and gaining nothing in many cases.
• Difficulty in finding independent and non-profit news organizations who actually publish constructive news articles because as they are not much used and less popular, we faced difficulty to search for them.
• Proper statistical data not easily available on internet regarding the mainstream media.
• Lot of surveys were not done regarding public’s source of news and how much they trust the news that is aired on mainstream media.
• Pipeline structure for the backend working of the app was not easy to workout. We need to keep our project different from others, so we thought upon it multiple time and worked it out designing it and presenting as backend design.
