Building Proofly came with a mix of technical and strategic challenges especially since it combines Web2 tracking (like steps and user actions) with Web3 verification and rewards.

Some key hurdles included:

Integrating real-world activity tracking with blockchain data:
Connecting step counters, task completions, and on-chain proofs in a seamless flow was tricky. We had to experiment with different APIs like Google Fit and HealthKit, while planning to anchor verified data to Base for transparency.

Designing a reward system that’s fair and scalable:
We iterated multiple times to balance XP rewards for daily actions (steps, learning, referrals, streaks, etc.) so users are rewarded meaningfully without risking inflation or spam.

Choosing the right backend infrastructure:
Initially, we tried Supabase + PostgreSQL, but it became too complex for syncing real-time actions. We switched to Firebase Firestore, which simplified data handling, authentication, and live updates.

Ensuring smooth onboarding for both Web2 and Web3 users:
We wanted users to sign in using email, Google, or wallet without confusion. This required combining Firebase Auth and wallet-based login logic into a single, unified experience.

Despite these challenges, each one helped shape a more robust and user-friendly platform making Proofly not just another reward app, but a bridge between everyday life and Web3 value.
