The problem Potluck solves
Customizability for Users: Users can create their own lottery games, set prize pools, and choose distribution methods, such as allocating 99% of the prize to one winner or having all participants share 99% of the prize. This customizability offers users unprecedented flexibility and control.
Transparency and Fairness: All operations and transactions in Potluck are conducted on the blockchain, ensuring unparalleled transparency and fairness. Every verification is completed online, within the blockchain environment itself, eliminating the need for oracles or any off-chain mechanisms. This approach guarantees that all game outcomes are verifiable and tamper-proof, directly on the blockchain, maintaining the integrity and trustworthiness of every game played.
Increased Incentives for Participants: Through the use of FOMO mechanics and NFTs, the platform increases the motivation for user participation. For example, FOMO mechanics make each game thrilling and exciting, while the tradability of NFTs provides issuers with a continuous source of passive income.
Lowering Barriers to Entry: A future goal is to attract users unfamiliar with wallets, making it easier to enter the world of Web3 and blockchain.
Challenges I ran into
While developing Potluck, we encountered scalability and speed issues during high-traffic periods. The recent upgrades to the Base mainnet significantly enhanced performance by increasing transaction capacity and reducing latency, ensuring seamless handling of peak loads and a smoother user experience.
One of our key challenges was the creation of a lottery game that does not rely on random number generators. To address this, we developed a novel gameplay mechanism that not only makes the game exciting but also enhances the sense of FOMO among players. This innovative approach required us to rethink traditional lottery dynamics and introduce a model that encourages continuous engagement and participation.
We owe a huge thank you to Wilson for his invaluable support during our integration with the Coinbase Smart Wallet. His expertise and patience were key in navigating numerous technical challenges, greatly streamlining our development process.We’re also deeply appreciative of WBNNS for providing test tokens, which were essential for our development and testing stages.
Additionally, we faced minor hurdles such as RPC limits, which we effectively resolved by setting up our own node. This adjustment further stabilized our platform’s performance.
