Challenges we ran into

Challenges Faced & Overcoming Them

WebSocket Communication:
Setting up WebSockets for real-time data transmission was challenging due to intermittent network drops and connection timeouts. We observed that under heavy traffic, the dashboard would occasionally miss updates. To address this, we improved the error handling and incorporated a heartbeat mechanism to maintain persistent connections, ensuring that alerts reached the dashboard reliably.

Sensor Integration & Calibration:
During sensor integration, the MEMS and barometric sensors sometimes produced noisy data leading to false triggers. Fine-tuning the calibration thresholds and adjusting the sensor fusion algorithm were critical steps. This ensured that only genuine accident events triggered the alert system, reducing false positives.

GSM Module Stability:
Configuring the SIM7600E module for GSM/GPRS communication posed issues, particularly with dropped HTTP requests in low network coverage areas. Optimizing the antenna setup and modifying firmware parameters significantly improved network reception and stability, allowing for reliable GPS data transmission to the backend.

Response Time Optimization:
Achieving a sub-one-minute response time required extensive testing and iterative code optimization. We refined our backend processes to reduce latency, streamlined the sensor data processing pipeline, and improved the efficiency of alert dispatching. These adjustments collectively minimized delays and ensured that hospitals received critical notifications almost instantly.

These hurdles, while challenging, helped refine the system's reliability and efficiency, ensuring that the Post Accident Alert System meets its goal of rapid emergency response in real-world conditions.
