Spend money with friends, no math no IOUs.
The problem Pool solves
Pool is an app that makes payments between friends as simple as they should be. Whether you’re having daily lunches with your coworkers, weekly hangouts with friends, group trips, or absolutely anything you do with your friends, easily split the payments. No more waiting on that one friend to pay you back after a month. No more feeling bad about constantly texting your friends to send over their share. More importantly, never worry about keeping receipts, notes, and doing all this math to see who owes whom what. Each friend will deposit an equal amount into their own pool. Everyone, or select members, gets access to a virtual card, and group activities can actually be paid for in person by simply using tap-to-pay. That simple.
Challenges I ran into
Unfortunately, stripe restricted us out of nowhere on the last day and we couldn't reach them or do anything about it. The app was working with real money and that was what we were hoping to submit, an actual ready to use app with real money. We had to use stripe testing/sandbox instead. Our actual long term idea is to integrate coinbase wallet tap to pay when it comes out. It'll be perfect for our usecase. But, we wanted to use stripe in the meantime for it's simplicity, ease, and low fees for new apps. Unfortunately it failed us right before the deadline. Switching over to the test and mock data caused new issues with building the app with expo. Plus my dev teammate had to take a flight and couldn't work on it after the stripe issues. We will use a diferent solution untill coinbase wallet tap to pay in released. That will involve using usd to usdc, and vice versa, instead of usd only with stripe for different reasons like lower fees, security, transparency, and it offers more ways to generate revenue that isn't possible in the traditional world like providing usdc for stablecoin liquidity pools.
I know this is sloppy and we take responsibilty for it. We did decide to at least show a UI of the concept that we used before we started coding in detail just to at least submit something. The screenshots show the general UI that I'm talking about, no video unfortunately for the reasons I mentioned earlier. We were even supposed to have it on testflight, but again, chain reaction.
