Student Playbook

A one-stop solution to get the most out of college. Built for the students, by the students.

The problem Student Playbook solves

Ever felt lost when you first step into college? Ever felt that you could have achieved so much more if only you'd known about 'something' before? Ever felt some people get more opportunities than you? Ever felt being dragged by society?

We present to you 'The Student Playbook', a platform created to guide you through college, provide you with multiple strategies that other students have used, their experiences and stories, tools you can use to help you along the way and much more! We plan on using an ML/AI-based approach in the platform to understand your likes/dislikes, and when integrated with your social media profiles, it can provide personalized advice, and curate the content accordingly. Think of it like a social media that would help you manage multiple aspects of your college life - career, social, physical health and mental health.

What's next?

  • Exploring different ML/AI approaches to provide the best-personalised experience
  • Collecting data to get a variety of opinions
  • An integrated chat-system to engage the users and connect them with their mates
  • Thinking of strategies to scale it to multiple colleges
  • Formulating 10x growth strategy

Challenges I ran into

Few of the challenges that we ran into while working on this platform were:

  • Designing the visual identity of the platform. We wanted to create something that student would feel inclined towards, a certain mix of formal and informal. After multiple iterations, we settled on multiple gradients throughout the platform to embrace the ideology of 'transition'.
  • Keeping in mind the exclusivity of the platform for the college students, we had to create a login page. A few specific challenges were keeping the user logged in even after the page reloads, storing the login state in the cache so that the user stays logged in when reopening the website. We learned to use react hooks, local storage and use them together by understanding the fundamentals of javascript to resolve this issue.
  • Creating a customized vertical timeline. We had to undergo multiple iterations and experiment with various CSS+JS attributes.
