The problem PhrasePool solves

PhrasePool is an AI-powered mini app that solves "creator's block" on Farcaster. It transforms the tedious task of writing engaging captions for images into a seamless, one-click experience.

By automating the captioning process, PhrasePool allows users to create and share high-quality content instantly, making on-chain social media more accessible and dynamic. Furthermore, our app provides a simple path for users to make their posts truly on-chain and permanent by leveraging IPFS for image storage, ensuring their creative content lives forever.

We make existing tasks easier by:

• Automating Captioning: Instantly generates witty and relevant captions for any image.

• Simplifying On-chain Content: Handles all complex IPFS/blockchain interactions behind the scenes.

• Ensuring Permanence: Users can choose to mint their photo casts to IPFS, guaranteeing the content's permanence.

Challenges I ran into

Building PhrasePool was an intense learning experience, primarily due to navigating the unique complexities of the Farcaster and Web3 ecosystem. The main challenges were:

Deployment & Serverless Integration: Initially, we faced persistent 404 Not Found errors and build failures when deploying to Netlify. The root cause was a conflict between Next.js API Routes and Netlify's serverless function handling. We overcame this by simplifying our configuration and ultimately migrating to Vercel, a platform built for Next.js, which provided a seamless, zero-config deployment experience. We were fortunate to receive invaluable advice and support from Dotorii from the Bloom team at Hunt Town, which was instrumental in helping us navigate this hurdle.

Farcaster's Strict Security Policies: We discovered that Farcaster clients enforce strict Content Security Policy (CSP) and CORS rules, blocking direct image uploads to external services from the client-side. This was a major roadblock for our initial plan. We solved this by creating a robust backend that acts as a secure intermediary. The client only communicates with our serverless API, which then handles all external calls to the Gemini AI and IPFS, ensuring our app's security and functionality remain intact.

Smart Contract Address(es)

Our project's core functionality (AI captioning) is executed off-chain to ensure speed and cost-efficiency. Our future monetization plans include a smart contract for on-chain tipping and a revenue-sharing model for premium emojis. We will deploy these contracts as the project scales.

Other Onchain Proof

The PhrasePool project is verifiably on-chain through its Farcaster ID (FID), which is registered on the Base network. All casts, including those containing the PhrasePool Frame, are permanently tied to this on-chain identity. This ensures the project's legitimacy and provides an immutable record of its activity.
