In busy streets, metros, and festivals, phone theft happens in seconds—and by the time you realize it, it’s too late. Traditional tracking tools fail once the phone is powered off or the SIM is removed.
Phindex solves this with a 3-phase defense system—Prevention, Action, and Collection—that works even when offline. It detects threats early, triggers a lockdown, and helps recover your phone using community-powered Bluetooth
signals.

Prevention Phase (GPS-Driven Geo-Alert)
Geo-Fence Detection
The mobile app continuously monitors your GPS location against a curated database of high-risk zones (markets, metros, festivals).
Proactive Vibration & Notification
Upon entering any geo-fenced area, your phone vibrates and displays a warning:
“Entering high-risk zone—stay alert!” -
Action Phase (Hibernation Mode)
Triggered automatically (via BLE signal) or manually in the app:
Full-Volume Alarm
Rings at max volume for 5 seconds and cannot be silenced without your PIN.
Button Lockout
Disables power & volume buttons to prevent shutdown or mute.
Covert Capture
Secretly takes photos, records audio snippets, and logs GPS in the background. -
Collection Phase (Bluetooth Community Mesh)
If the thief removes the SIM or goes offline:
BLE Beacon Mode
Your phone broadcasts a rotating token via BLE.
Helper Relays
Nearby Phindex helper apps pick up the beacon and anonymously forward location data over their own internet.
Instant Alerts
You receive “last-seen” coordinates so you can track down your device—no Wi-Fi or SIM required.

Challenges we ran into

Detecting Accurate Theft Triggers
Avoiding false alarms from everyday movement was tough due to noisy wristband data.
Solution: We integrated Gemini API to analyze multi-sensor data, enabling smarter detection and greatly reducing false positives. -
Finding a Reliable Collection-Phase Strategy
Traditional tracking failed if the phone lost network or was shut off. BLE mesh recovery was promising but hard to implement.
Solution: After researching offline protocols, we built a rotating BLE beacon with secure tokens, picked up by nearby helper phones—balancing privacy, range, and reliability.
