Challenges I ran into
During the development of PeerPost, I encountered a significant challenge related to integrating the Cadence smart contract programming language with the existing web3 technology stack. Since Cadence is a relatively new language, the documentation and community support were limited, which made the learning curve steep.
One specific hurdle was related to handling transactional interactions between the front-end and the smart contract on the Flow blockchain. Ensuring seamless communication and data synchronization required careful consideration and meticulous debugging.
To overcome this challenge, I adopted a systematic approach:
- Thorough Research: I extensively researched Flow's official documentation, blog posts, and discord to understand best practices and common pitfalls.
- Trial and Error: I conducted several small-scale experiments to test different methods of integration. I used mock data and simple smart contracts to identify potential issues and find optimal solutions.
- Iterative Development: I adopted an iterative development process, breaking down the integration tasks into manageable milestones. Each milestone was thoroughly tested and reviewed before proceeding to the next.
By persistently following this approach and leveraging available resources, I successfully overcame the challenges related to integrating Cadence and building the PeerPost platform. The project's completion and functionality have been immensely rewarding, reinforcing my belief in the potential of decentralized blogging and the power of collaboration within the web3 community.
