The problem OptionsCopilot solves
Trading crypto options is usually too complicated for everyday users. People get confused by strike prices, expiration dates, Greeks, and complex order books, even if they just want to make a simple bet that ETH will go up or protect their portfolio from a drop. OptionsCopilot solves this with an AI chat assistant. Users can simply type what they want in plain English. The app translates their words into a real options trade with clear costs, maximum loss, and breakeven prices, allowing them to confirm and execute the trade on Base mainnet with one click.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was saving trade expiration dates in our database using Prisma Next and Supabase, which caused serialization errors until we integrated Temporal Instant to handle date formats properly. Another challenge was making sure the AI reliably converted free-form chat messages into exact trade parameters, which we solved by setting up strict Gemini function calling with fallback extraction checks. Lastly, to prevent failed transactions and wasted gas on Base mainnet, we built pre-flight gas estimation dry runs before broadcasting any transaction.
