Okto addresses the critical need for unrestricted and secure internet access in regions facing censorship, geo-restrictions, and privacy concerns. In today's interconnected world, traditional VPNs are prone to centralization, exposing users to risks like data logging, server shutdowns, and vulnerabilities in public Wi-Fi networks. This results in restricted access to information and a lack of data privacy. Moreover, businesses face app censorship and security risks that can undermine trust, compliance, and user engagement. Okto decentralizes the infrastructure by turning users into nodes, creating a secure, censorship-resistant, and transparent network, ensuring that internet freedom is preserved globally."
During the development of Okto, one of the significant challenges was implementing seamless node-to-node communication in the dVPN system while maintaining high-speed internet performance. This was particularly difficult due to the peer-to-peer nature of decentralized networks, where latency and connectivity issues can arise. We addressed this by optimizing our integration with Flutter to handle node discovery efficiently using protocols such as libp2p for peer discovery and QUIC for secure connections. Another challenge was securing the app against malicious nodes, which we solved by implementing a reputation system that flags potential threats based on user reviews and AI-driven analytics
