The problem NyayAI solves

NyayAI is an AI-powered legal assistance platform designed to make justice more accessible, affordable, and understandable for everyone, especially those in rural or underserved communities. It tackles critical challenges such as lack of legal awareness, high consultation costs, and language barriers by providing a user-friendly, AI-based legal chatbot with multilingual support. Users can describe their legal issues in simple language and receive instant, personalized guidance. A key feature is "Consult Lawyer," which enables users to connect with verified, high-profile legal professionals for further consultation. Another integral part of the platform is "Nyay Mitra," an online community where individuals can ask legal questions and receive solutions from law students, encouraging peer-to-peer learning and community support. NyayAI also includes "Scheme Seva," a tool that intelligently filters and suggests government schemes, legal rights, and constitutional articles relevant to the user’s problem—helping citizens become more aware of the protections and benefits available to them. Altogether, NyayAI is not just a platform but a movement toward democratizing legal help through AI, empowering users to make informed legal decisions and bridging the gap between the law and the common person.

Challenges we ran into

While building NyayAI, we encountered several significant challenges, particularly in integrating the AI chatbot and ensuring the authenticity of users in the legal ecosystem. One major hurdle was customizing the chatbot to generate responses based on our legal database. The model initially struggled to provide accurate and context-aware answers tailored to Indian legal scenarios, such as suggesting specific laws or connecting users with the right professionals. To overcome this, we connected the chatbot to our internal legal database, enabling it to fetch relevant laws, rights, and solutions dynamically based on the user’s query. This allowed the AI to provide more accurate, meaningful, and reliable assistance. Another challenge arose while building the "Nyay Mitra" community, where users could post legal queries and receive answers from law students. Verifying the authenticity of these students was critical, so we implemented a manual credential-checking system using student IDs and institutional verification before granting response privileges. Similarly, finding and verifying genuine lawyers was a complex task. We addressed it by requiring bar registration numbers and professional profile reviews, ensuring users connected only with trusted legal experts. These challenges emphasized the importance of trust, data accuracy, and responsible AI integration in a sensitive field like legal assistance.
