Empowering Bharat with Legal Literacy, One Click at a Time
The problem Nyay Jyoti: Digital Assistant for Legal Awareness solves
In India, around 73% of the population lacks legal awareness, leading to exploitation and violation of rights, especially among vulnerable groups like children, informal workers, and marginalized communities. Nyay Jyoti aims to bridge this gap by providing a user-friendly, multilingual web portal that simplifies legal concepts and offers various services to empower citizens with legal knowledge and resources.
Key problems addressed:
Legal Ignorance: Nyay Jyoti aims to educate and raise legal awareness among the masses through user-friendly explanations, videos, and AI-powered chatbots.
Child Vulnerability: With 40% of Indians being under 18 and 96% having partial awareness of their rights, the platform offers child-friendly content and resources to educate children about their legal protections.
Informal Labor Exploitation: In India's 93% informal workforce, laborers often face exploitation due to unfamiliarity with legal protections. Nyay Jyoti provides information on labor laws and rights to empower these workers.
Marginalized Communities: Vulnerable groups face discrimination and legal challenges due to lack of access to resources. Nyay Jyoti aims to bridge this gap by offering inclusive and multilingual legal resources.
Family and Consumer Disputes: Many struggle with legal processes related to family and consumer disputes. The platform guides users through complaint filing, document creation, and connecting with legal professionals.
Challenges we ran into
One of the major challenges we faced was ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for diverse populations, especially those from marginalized communities or with disabilities. To overcome this, we incorporated features like multilingual support (22 official Indian languages), voice recognition for disabled users, and multimedia integration for those with literacy challenges.
Another challenge was curating and simplifying complex legal information into user-friendly formats. We addressed this by collaborating with legal experts, developing an auto-categorization system, and creating engaging multimedia content like videos and gamified learning modules.
