The problem NexArt solves

NexArt lowers the barriers to onchain creativity by making generative art creation simple, accessible, and rewarding. Current platforms are often intimidating for beginners, requiring coding knowledge, wallets, and gas fees. NexArt solves this by offering both no-code and code modes (with AI assistance), embedded smart wallets with email login, and gas-sponsored publishing. This allows anyone, artists, hobbyists, or newcomers to crypto to create, mint, and collect generative art on Base in minutes. By empowering creators and ensuring they keep the majority of mint proceeds, NexArt is building a fair, inclusive, and frictionless path for the next wave of onchain artists.

Challenges I ran into

One of my biggest hurdles was building NexArt’s generative art engine. As an artist and first-time developer, I had to design a safe yet expressive coding environment from scratch. I enforced strict sandboxing (no globals, no external libraries), expanded the system to over 210 built-in functions, and solved mobile canvas crashes with a dual-canvas saving system. What began as an experiment became a curated engine capable of producing gallery-quality, mint-ready generative artworks.

I also had to learn database integration from the ground up. Supabase powers profiles, artworks, and mint events, but early issues like schema inconsistencies, invalid key errors, and broken publish flows prevented artworks from displaying or syncing on-chain. With no prior backend experience, I restructured tables, implemented fallbacks between the database and blockchain, and introduced caching for performance. These steps turned a fragile system into a reliable foundation that now supports NexArt’s gallery and profiles at scale.

Finally, wallet onboarding proved difficult. I first tested Privy for email sign-in, but its large build size required hosting beyond my budget. Alchemy smart wallets introduced reliability issues with logins and mobile support. My solution was a hybrid model: Alchemy for smart wallets and RainbowKit for traditional wallets—balancing accessibility, stability, and cost.

These challenges pushed me to grow quickly as both an artist and a developer, and shaped NexArt into the resilient platform it is today.
