The problem NetNanny solves

Children today have an unrestricted access to the internet, as useful as the internet is vast majority of it is still very unsafe for them. NetNanny intends to solve this problem by giving parents the power to restrict internet access of their children in just few button clicks. It not only restricts to a list of websites but also identifies hateful, violence, sexually explicit content in websites and can warn parents about it. It also tracks the usage and times it.

Challenges we ran into

As we relied on a proxy server to do website filtering our primary challenge was to setup the proxy on the child's phone without any manual configuration. Ability to capture and inspects the packet in real time was also difficult to do in a performant manner. Getting various permissions for the app was also challenging on React Native using Expo.
