Lock the deal. Trust the chain.
The problem LockPay solves
Sending a payment to someone you don't fully trust means one side has to go first: pay upfront and hope for delivery, or deliver first and hope for payment. Our escrow app removes that risk using a Sui smart contract. The sender locks a coin on-chain for a specific recipient, and only that recipient can claim it (release). If the deal falls through, the sender can reclaim the funds themselves (cancel) at any time before release, so there's no need for a third-party arbitrator. It works with any coin type on Sui, including stablecoins like testnet USDC, so it's directly usable for freelance payments, marketplace deals, or any peer-to-peer transaction where neither side wants to go first.
Challenges we ran into
With a tight build window, one of our biggest challenges was deciding where to spend limited time. We prioritized getting the core escrow flow working end-to-end via the Sui CLI first — split a coin, lock it, release or cancel — before touching the frontend, so we'd have a guaranteed working demo even if the UI wasn't finished in time. This also surfaced a real technical hurdle: the newly created Escrow object's ID isn't returned directly by the transaction, so we had to inspect the transaction's object changes to extract it before it could be shown in the UI. Time pressure meant we treated the frontend wallet integration as a "nice to have" layered on top of a proven CLI flow, rather than something to debug from scratch under deadline.
