Decentralized Medical Records On the Blockchain

The problem MOPS(Medical Onchain Patient System solves

In today’s healthcare system, one of the biggest challenges patients and doctors face is the lack of a unified and easily accessible medical record. Often, when a patient visits different hospitals or clinics, their medical history becomes scattered across multiple systems, making it difficult for doctors to get a complete picture of their past treatments, diagnoses, or allergies. This not only slows down the process of care but can also lead to repeated tests, miscommunication, or even medical errors.

To address this, we are building a web-based platform that securely stores and manages a patient’s complete medical history. Our platform is designed for two main users patients and doctors. Patients can log in to view, update, and manage their health information, giving them full control over their data. Doctors, on the other hand, can request access to view or edit a patient’s records, but only after the patient grants permission. This ensures that data privacy and consent remain at the heart of the system.

What makes our platform unique is its use of blockchain technology. Every update made to a medical record is securely stored on the blockchain, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and protection from unauthorized access or tampering. This decentralized system not only keeps sensitive data safe but also builds trust between patients and healthcare providers.

Ultimately, our goal is to make healthcare more connected, transparent, and patient-centered. By allowing doctors and patients to access accurate medical histories anytime and anywhere, we hope to create a world where technology truly helps people receive faster, safer, and more personalized care.

Challenges we ran into

Building a website that securely manages and shares medical records is both exciting and challenging. While the idea sounds simple storing patient data online the actual process involves solving several complex technical and ethical problems.

One of the first challenges we faced was data privacy and security. Medical data is extremely sensitive, and even a small leak could have serious consequences for patients. Ensuring that every piece of information is encrypted, protected, and only accessible to authorized users is a constant priority. Integrating blockchain technology helped us tackle this, but it also brought its own learning curve understanding how to structure data blocks and maintain transaction efficiency while keeping the system user-friendly required a lot of trial and error.

Another big challenge was designing a smooth user experience. Since our platform is meant for both patients and doctors, we had to make sure it was simple enough for patients to use but detailed enough for medical professionals. Striking this balance between usability and functionality wasn’t easy, especially when dealing with large forms and technical data.

We also encountered issues related to data integration pulling together information from different systems and ensuring it stayed consistent across platforms. Managing login authentication, access control, and smooth communication between the frontend and backend systems demanded constant debugging and fine tuning.

Lastly, working as a team under time constraints meant handling different ideas, coding styles, and stress levels. But these challenges taught us how collaboration, patience, and clear communication can transform a complex vision into a real, working solution
