Moodify - Mental health matters

Automated Screening Platform on Mobile Phone Maintaining a Regular track of the mental well being and connecting the needy to specialists in the field. We provide a "Secure scalable solution"

The problem Moodify - Mental health matters solves

“Mental illnesses are not only the misery of the poor and middle class, rather those with much fame tend to be more vulnerable”. The recent death of young actor Sushant Singh Rajput proves to be a testament to this age-old quote.
As children we are constantly fed this idea of how it is super important to take care of our body, Parents spend hours researching what the latest diet fads are, crafting personalized workouts to keep fit, state of the art technologies (e.g. - Fitbit) are deployed to keep track of our physical well being. But then again are we truly healthy? We often tend to neglect the ‘mental health’ aspect of our well-being. Lack of awareness about the issue, the stigma associated with it, lack of trained professionals, inadequate funding and the low priority given in the healthcare budget are one of the few reasons refrain people from having access to proper treatment. In most developing/under-developed countries the stigma attached to mental health is so deeply rooted that people feel ashamed to even talk to their parents, friends, let alone a professional. As per a WHO report, 1 in 4 people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. The idea that the person sitting next to me, or that one of our friends, family members can go through their whole life without discussing their mental health issues with anyone, suffocating from inside was scariest at the least. This prompted us to innovate in this space, Our solution ‘Moodify’ helps one track their mental wellbeing score by listening to various social sensors which include:

  1. Social Networking Websites(Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google Search),
  2. Analyzing Audio logs, and Tracking sleep and appetite.
The app provides a cumulative well-being score(in the form of a dashboard) which can be monitored by the user or some other supervisor such as a family member/friend. The application also helps the user connect with the nearby certified profession.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Identifying different target groups and making sure our solution is accessible to all of them
  2. Setting up Microsoft Azure APIs such as Azure Computer Vision API, Face API, Sentiment Analysis API, etc Since it was our first time interacting with the cloud we faced a lot of difficulties in setting the dev-ops up and getting things in motion.
  3. Making the machine learning models small and scalable so that they can be deployed to even the lowest segment of mobile phones present in the market to support a wide set of diaspora.
