The problem Moodeng Credit solves

Inspired by Moodeng's global vibe—tackling a worldwide issue with style. No we're not a memecoin. But, our target users in Southeast Asia really think its a cute logo.

So what are we solving?

When you cross into another country, can you take your credit score with you?
No, you can’t. You start from zero.

This is the reality for millions of people — migrants, freelancers, gig workers, and those living in economies where traditional credit systems don’t reach. Access to unsecured credit is broken globally. Banks and credit funds demand paperwork, collateral, and credit histories that many people simply don’t have — not because they’re irresponsible, but because the system was never built for them. And who can forget there's alsoo the loan-sharks apps out there — apps that charge crazy interest through opaque lending practices!

Moodeng Credit is rebuilding that system — on-chain. By using blockchain for identity, verification, and credit history, we’re creating a credit layer that moves with the user, not the institution. Whether someone is in Nairobi, Bangkok, or São Paulo, they can build a verifiable credit reputation by repaying microloans transparently and on time — all recorded on-chain, all wallet-to-wallet.

For lenders, this unlocks new yield opportunities using stablecoins — with real people, not just protocols and platforms. Beyond Person-to-Person lending, that goes from the lender's wallet to the borrower's wallet, and vice versa, in the long-run our objective is that the loans can be bundled and packaged; sold daily and tradable like securitized assets — therefore turning what was once an illiquid, inaccessible market into a new form of decentralized private credit.

As time goes on, and action creates information, we can build a new credit scoring system from the data of lending and borrowing, plus the wallet activity.

So what does our solution do?

Moodeng fixes the fact that credit has never been truly portable, inclusive, or fair. We believe your financial trustworthiness shouldn’t be bound by borders, banks, or legacy institutions. We use biometric verification, using civic, that is also entirely on-chain (check out civic.me to learn more). Everything we do is on-chain, connected and built around Base's tooling and infrastructure, and we're super excited to be part of the Base ecosystem!

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges was onboarding users who are unfamiliar with blockchain, especially those who confuse stablecoins with speculative cryptocurrencies. Many potential borrowers assume they’re being asked to take on volatile assets, when in reality, they’re borrowing dollar-pegged stablecoins. We had to rethink our educational flow to emphasize the difference early and clearly.

Another hurdle was helping users understand the importance of wallets — not just as storage tools, but as identity layers. For many first-time users, the idea of “logging in” without an email or password was unfamiliar and unintuitive. To solve this, we integrated the Coinbase Wallet SDK and Smart Wallet tooling, simplifying the onboarding process to feel more like a Web2 experience, while maintaining Web3 principles like custody and control.

We also ran into fragmentation across on- and off-ramp providers. For example, some users in Southeast Asia can use PromptPay to onramp into crypto, but not all wallets support it natively. To address this, we’re integrating an Eco/Bend overlay that helps convert stablecoins across networks, reducing friction for users regardless of where they’re coming from or what chain their assets are on.

Finally, building trust in unsecured lending is a challenge by nature. To overcome this, we implemented on-chain verification through Civic and designed our system to let borrowers start small, prove reliability, and grow their credit over time. This mirrors the success of informal credit networks like Reddit’s r/borrow — but with the added benefits of transparency, auditability, and smart contract enforcement.

Additionally, web2 alternative platforms like Mintos, Robocash, and other lending marketplaces have introduced retail investors to private credit, they still operate with centralized control, hidden fees, and limited borrower-lender transparency. These platforms act as intermediaries — users can’t lend directly to borrowers. Instead, they’re buying into pre-arranged loan portfolios, often without knowing who the end borrowers are, and with little say in how their funds are used. Fees are charged at multiple levels, reducing returns for lenders and increasing costs for borrowers.

But, Moodeng Credit is fully decentralized and transparent. Borrowers can request loans directly from lenders, wallet-to-wallet — no banks, no brokers, no hidden middlemen. Our approach is closer to a truly open marketplace, not a gatekept lending product. Unlike Web2 P2P options, which often fail to scale due to trust and repayment issues, we use on-chain identity (via Civic), visible repayment history, and token staking to build trust and accountability into the system. Platforms like Lenme may let borrowers ask directly, but they’re still off-chain, opaque, and fee-heavy.

The challenge is that people already recognize platforms like Mintos — they trust them because they’ve been around. But we believe Web2 models aren't the future of peer-to-peer lending. Moodeng Credit offers the next step: trustless, transparent lending that is portable, fee-free, and available to anyone with a wallet.
