Feel Heard, Feel Healed with Mira
Describe your project
The Mira mental health support chatbot project aims to provide empathetic and compassionate responses to users seeking mental health assistance, including crisis assessment and resource sharing tailored to the Indian context. In-scope features encompass active listening, crisis management with helpline referrals, and motivational interviewing to engage users effectively. However, it will not serve as a substitute for professional therapy, offer medical diagnoses, or handle sensitive personal data. Future opportunities include integrating with health services, expanding features like mood tracking, supporting multiple languages, fostering community building through support groups, conducting research for continuous improvement, and launching awareness campaigns to promote mental health education.
Challenges we ran into
The Mira mental health support chatbot project faces several challenges, including building user trust and acceptance, as users may be hesitant to engage with a chatbot for sensitive topics. Accurately interpreting user emotions and context can be difficult, especially when dealing with complex feelings or informal language. Additionally, effective crisis management is critical, requiring the chatbot to promptly identify signs of crisis and provide appropriate resources without overstepping its boundaries. Ensuring cultural sensitivity is essential to create relatable responses for a diverse Indian audience while maintaining strict data privacy and confidentiality. The need for continuous improvement through regular updates and training to adapt to evolving mental health needs adds to the complexity, and establishing partnerships with mental health professionals for resource sharing is crucial yet challenging for enhancing the chatbot's credibility and effectiveness.
