Traditional gambling platforms can lead to addiction, financial hardship, and emotional distress, whereas Mindful Gambling provides a controlled environment where users can engage in wagering without real-world consequences. By allowing users to play Blackjack and Roulette using Conscious Cash, a non-addictive in-game currency, the platform eliminates financial stress while still delivering the excitement of gambling. Mandatory educational breaks after significant losses encourage users to reflect on their gaming habits and recognize unhealthy behaviors. Additionally, access to curated videos on responsible gaming reinforces awareness and promotes healthier decision-making. The frontend provides a dynamic UI, managing game interactions and Conscious Cash balance with React Context. The backend enforces game rules, user authentication, and session tracking, ensuring players watch educational videos before replenishing their balance. The database stores user profiles, game histories, and engagement data to promote responsible play. Development follows an agile methodology, with iterative testing to refine gameplay and educational reinforcement. Security measures, including rate limiting and encryption, protect user data. This structured approach ensures an engaging and risk-free gambling experience.

Trade-offs and shortcuts while building
During development, Mindful Gambling prioritized core functionality over advanced features to ensure a smooth and timely launch. One key trade-off was using the YouTube API for educational videos instead of hosting custom content, which limits control over video availability but significantly reduces storage and maintenance overhead. Additionally, the video timer enforcement was implemented using the Fetch API rather than a more robust backend tracking system, allowing for quicker development but leaving room for potential bypasses. While the initial version relies on React Context and Local Storage for managing user balance, future iterations may incorporate a backend database to enable cross-device synchronization. Other planned optimizations include improving game animations and UI responsiveness, refining educational content integration, and enhancing session tracking for better user insights. These decisions allowed for a functional MVP while leaving room for future enhancements.
