The problem MetaCitizen solves
MetaCitizen addresses one of the most pressing challenges in the blockchain space today: regulatory compliance and money laundering prevention.
As decentralized finance (DeFi) and blockchain-based services grow, regulators are demanding more robust identity and compliance mechanisms. Traditional Know Your Customer (KYC) solutions are often siloed, off-chain, and incompatible with decentralized systems. This creates friction for users, and uncertainty for protocols trying to stay compliant.
MetaCitizen solves this by bringing verified identities on-chain, enabling protocols to access real-time, permissioned user information such as KYC status, jurisdiction, and AML risk level. This allows decentralized applications to remain compliant without compromising on decentralization or user experience.
Compared to existing solutions, MetaCitizen is:
- Interoperable: Works across multiple protocols and chains.
- User-centric: Puts users in control of who can access their information.
- Real-time: Offers up-to-date compliance data at the point of transaction.
This approach reduces legal and regulatory risk for protocols, while allowing users to interact with DeFi in a more seamless and secure way.
Challenges I ran into
We studied the onchainID contracts to learn how the industry is handling identity it the moment so our wolution would be easily integrated in actual systems
Another One of the main challenges was implementing a simil Google OAuth flow and integrating it into our identity system. Although OAuth might seem simple at first glance, creating a seamless and secure flow that works within a decentralized identity model turned out to be quite complex.
We had to coordinate multiple systems — from front-end authorization to back-end token handling — standards and maintaining security best practices. This involved managing scopes, and user consent
To overcome this, we broke down the system into smaller, testable components and carefully studied OAuth. We also made use of well-maintained libraries and verified our implementation
In the end, we built a robust and extensible login system that serves as the foundation for MetaCitizen’s on-chain identity flow.
