Building Meera Clinic AI came with its own set of hurdles:
Real-time voice interaction
- Challenge: Integrating the OpenAI Realtime API for smooth, low-latency conversations was tricky, especially with handling interruptions while the user was still speaking.
- Solution: I optimized the event handling and carefully managed audio streams to keep the interaction natural and responsive.
Multilingual understanding
- Challenge: Ensuring the AI could handle multiple Indian languages (Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu) along with English and foreign languages without confusion.
Solution: I leveraged OpenAI’s built-in multilingual support, tested with real sample inputs, and added language-specific prompts for clarity.
Doctor availability & scheduling
- Challenge: Mapping real-world doctor availability into a structured time-slot system was harder than expected.
- Solution: I built a simple but scalable scheduling model that checks availability before confirming appointments.
Voice call integration
- Challenge: Connecting the AI with a real call interface (so users could actually talk to it) required handling WebRTC/audio streaming smoothly.
- Solution: I integrated a call layer with the Realtime API and tested with different devices until the voice flow was stable.
