Revolutionizing drug pricing - Medicine without middlemen
The problem MedCrypt solves
Pharmacy Benefit Managers inflate drug pricing reducing patient accessibility and displaying unfair market control. We built an app to allow manufacturer and insurance companies to execute a contract to set price and discounts without the need for PBM's to broker the deal and in turn take control of setting infalted drug pricing and rebate kickbacks. We implemented Smart Contracts and AI Agents as Transparent Alternatives to Pharmacy Benefit Managers.
User Interaction and Data Flow
The manufacturer creates an identity and pulls the FDA approved list of drugs using FDA API. Manufacturer sets the selling price of the drug and notifies the insurance company that the drug is available for sale.
Insurance company reviews the price set by manufacturer and either accepts the price or asks for a discount. Once the discount is agreed upon between both the parties then it is recorded in the smart contract for persistence and transparency
Insurance company sets the tiers the drug belongs to and enables the drug for prescription readiness.
Doctors will now be able to look at the allowed medicines before prescribing them to patients
When the pharmacy recieves the prescription they complete the sale and fullfill the payments for all parties involved. This brings full transparency to the end-to-end supply chain of pharma deliveries.
The project architecture and development process
We implemented smartcontracts to allow Manufactuere to set price on FDA approved drugs (fetched from open FDA API). Insurance companies will be notified when of the drug and its price. They can either accept the price as is or ask for a discount to Manufactuer. Once that process is complete a contract is created between Manufactuer and Insruance for a set price on a specific tier on the policy. Pharmacies can sell the drug for all patients who has the policy.

Key differentiators and uniqueness of the project
Other projects tried to mimic the PBM in the smartcontract where they adopted the rebate and kickback policies into the smartcontract world without benefitting from completely replacing the PBM's.
Trade-offs and shortcuts while building
We started off with the goal of implementing all the functions of this supply chain. Very soon we realized that its a big goal to accomplish in one week. We also tried to implement EigenLayer AVS as a verification protocol for all transactions. This turned out to be very complex for this usecase. Then we narrowed down the scope to 2 key entities in this complex supply chain to prototype and prove what is possible instead of trying to give a complete fool proof solution. Additionally all of our team members are new to web3 hence took lots of ramp up time to learn the new technologies and implement them.
When building AI Agent we realized that it is not user friendly to get drug pricing with just NDC code. Then we integrated the FDA API with AI Agent to make it more smarter and user friendly.
Additional Features
It was started after buildathon started and we all are new to web3, started learning about various sponsor and API's available for integration.
