A cave between emergencies and ambulance
The problem MedCave solves
Imagine this: Someone you care about suddenly needs urgent medical help, but you’re stuck trying to find an ambulance. Precious moments slip by as you make frantic calls, unsure if help will arrive in time. It’s a situation no one wants to face, yet it’s all too common.
How MedCave Makes a Difference
MedCave was created to solve this exact problem by focusing entirely on the ambulance experience.
Here’s what it does:
Locate Ambulances Instantly: With just a few taps, MedCave shows you the nearest available ambulances, cutting out the delays of traditional methods.
Real-Time Tracking: No more waiting in uncertainty—track the ambulance’s progress and know exactly when it will arrive.
Clear Communication: MedCave ensures smooth coordination between the user and the driver, so there’s no confusion when every second matters.
Unlike other solutions, MedCave deliberately focuses only on ambulances, keeping the app simple, direct, and purpose-driven.
Features We Dreamed Of
When we envisioned MedCave, we wanted it to go beyond just ambulances:
Prescription Scanning: An idea to digitize prescriptions with a simple scan for convenience.
Alternate Medicine Finder: A tool to help you find substitutes for unavailable medicines in emergencies.
While these features couldn’t be completed due to time constraints, the vision remains, and they might find their way into future updates.
MedCave’s mission is simple—make emergency medical transport as efficient and stress-free as possible. It’s a focused tool designed for those moments when nothing matters more than getting help, fast.
Challenges we ran into
When every second counts, users shouldn’t have to navigate through complex interfaces or multiple steps to get help. Our initial design required too many actions for the user to request an ambulance, which could lead to delays in critical situations.
How We Overcame It
-
Adding Voice-to-Text:
To minimize user actions, we implemented a voice-to-text feature using the speech_to_text package. This allowed users to simply speak their needs, making the process faster and more intuitive, especially in emergencies. -
Automating Critical Information Extraction:
We integrated the Gemini API to process the user's input (voice or text) and extract key details like:
Reason for the request
Severity of the condition
Whether the patient is conscious or not
Breathing status
Any visible injuries
This automation streamlined the process of gathering essential information, reducing time and cognitive load on the user.
- Optimizing Location Tracking:
Using the Google Maps API, we pinpointed the locations of both the ambulance driver and the patient. By calculating the distance in real time, we ensured the nearest and most appropriate ambulance could be dispatched quickly.
