India’s pharmaceutical industry is losing around Rs 500 crore annually on account of destruction of expired drugs, hitting the bottom line of drug manufacturers, especially the small and medium ones. By – “The Economic Times”
Every year lots of drugs are wasted just because they get expired.
In India financially weaker section of the society are unable to afford these expensive drugs and drugs worth around 500 crore are getting wasted every year, quite ironic isn’t it.
The cost of non-generic medicines is often too high for financially weaker sections of society, making it difficult for them to access necessary treatments. Hospitals and companies often recommend non-generic medicines to make a profit, exacerbating the problem. As a result, many people are unable to afford the medicines they need, leading to negative health outcomes.
